HUGH GUNNING Regretfully, Bob and Don Gunning announce their Dad peacefully passed away on April 17, 2008 at the grand age of 93. Dad is survived by Bob (Betty) Gunning and Don (Michelle) Gunning. Hugh's grandchildren, Linda (Andy) Minkevich, James (Tina) Gunning, Julie (Craig) Shearer, Caroline (Brad) Erickson, Allyson Gunning and Lynne (Mike) Magnusson share our sadness. We hope his six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren will appreciate how he made our life better. Hugh was predeceased by our mom Margery Gunning in 1974 and his second wife Christabel Gunning in 1997. Born and raised in Transcona, Hugh was a lifelong Winnipegger. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. His working career was in the employ of C.N.R. Transcona Stores Department from which he happily retired in 1978. During Dad's working years he was a hard-working, loving, devoted husband to Mom and father to us. Christabel's marriage to our dad gave him renewed energy so they were able to enjoy a leisurely retired lifestyle including world travels. In 1998 Hugh moved to the Quest Inn where he lived, until his declining health necessitated a move in 2006 to the Parkview Place Nursing Home where he spent his final days. Funeral Service to be held Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home. Burial immediately following at St. Vital Cemetery after which the services are concluded. We wish to thank the Home Care staff that assisted Hugh during his stay at the Quest Inn and especially the Doctors and Nursing staff that took care of Dad during his stay at Parkview Place. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if desired donations in Hugh's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
